Samsung Exynos 880 chipset
There are already two Samsung chipsets of in-house 5G in the Exynos 980 and Exynos 990, and now it is adding a third to its stable with the latest announced Exynos 880.
The latest chipset have many things in common with the Exynos 980, starting from Mali-G76 MP5 GPU to the 8nm design and integrated NPU for machine learning and the CPU layout (2x Cortex-A77 and 6x Cortex-A55).
Therefore what’s really makes the Exynos 880 different from the previous chipset, then? For one, the Cortex-A77 cores contains a lesser clock speed (2Ghz vs 2.2Ghz), which should give a small CPU performance benefit to the older SoC on paper.
Is Exynos 980 higher than Exynos 880?
The latest processor is also higher at 2,520 x 1,080 when it comes to display support, while the display supported by Exynos 980 is 3,360 x 1,440. It also looks like the new chip only provides Wi-Fi 5 capabilities versus Wi-Fi 6 on the formal SoC.
The Exynos 880 provides 64MP single camera support (and 20MP+20MP dual) as it’s maximum, while the Exynos 980 can take up to 108MP camera sensors which can be seen on the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Galaxy S20 Ultra. Therefore, those that are going for the highest resolution cameras eventually Will purchase an Exynos 880-toting device.
In addition, Samsung latest processor is higher at 4K/30fps video recording versus 4K/120fps on the previously released chipset. Obviously this is being located a step below the Exynos 980.
Vivo Y70s 5G is the first phone that comes with the Exynos 880, that was launched in China few hours ago. So you can be looking forward to devices powered by this SoC in the West starting from now.
Report of a low cost 5G chipset also comes as many brands launch cheaper 5G smartphones. You can really check out more affordable 5G phone on this blog.
