TikTok CEO begs Instagram, Facebook to assist in reverting TikTok ban

TikTok CEO begs Instagram, Facebook to assist in reverting TikTok ban

Till the end, ‘We will continue to challenge the unjust executive order’

TikTok’s interim CEO, Vanessa Pappas, is urging Facebook and Instagram to “publicly join our challenge and support our litigation,” as TikTok faces a new executive order from the Trump administration that will prevent people from downloading the app beginning September 20th.

The new order was issued by the Department of Commerce on Friday morning, and it clearly states that people are not longer allowed to download TikTok or WeChat beginning on the 20th. For now, TikTok will be active in the United States for people who already have the app installed, but future downloads will be prevented.

Pappas’ call to action came in the form of a reply to a tweet by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, who said that a “US TikTok ban would be quite bad for Instagram, Facebook, and the internet more broadly.” Pappas added that it’s a moment “to put aside our competition and focus on core principles like freedom of expression and due process of law.” Pappas’ prompt comes at a time when rumors are swirling that Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom is in talks to replace recently departed TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer.

“WE WILL CONTINUE TO CHALLENGE THE UNJUST EXECUTIVE ORDER”

The Trump administration called for a TikTok ban earlier this year due to data security concerns. The administration demanded that ByteDance sell its US operations to an American company by September 15th or TikTok would be banned entirely. In the meantime, the administration and ByteDance are reportedly working with Oracle to secure a deal.

TikTok issued a statement following the Department of Commerce’s order, insisting that the company has already “committed to unprecedented levels of additional transparency and accountability well beyond what other apps are willing to do.” The statement says that TikTok plans to work with an American tech provider, which would “be responsible for maintaining and operating the TikTok network in the US, which would include all services and data serving US consumers.”

“We will continue to challenge the unjust executive order, which was enacted without due process and threatens to deprive the American people and small businesses across the US of a significant platform for both a voice and livelihoods.”

Realme 7 Fast-on review

Realme 7 Fast-on review

The Realme 6 is a phone dropped about six months ago, more reason why it isn’t a full-fledged, generational upgrade. But, a few new things comes in that should elevate the user experience quite a bit. For instance, the new Realme 7 comes with a generous 5,000 mAh battery instead of the 4,300 mAh found on Realme 6 and there’s also the TÜV Rheinland Smartphone Reliability Verification.

The Realme 7 is the first smartphone to come with it but it’s still unclear what this certification will be conforming.

The new MediaTek Helio G95 gaming-centric chipset is also on the list of new features, and as MediaTek detailed, it can hardly be called an upgrade compared to the G90. Looking more like an upgrade – just like the Realme 7 itself. There might be a little increase in GPU performance due to the higher clocks, but that’s pretty something bigger Oh, and there are new paint jobs as well.

Realme 7 specs

Body: 162.3 x 75.4 x 9.4 mm, 197g; Front glass, plastic body
Screen: 6.5″ IPS LCD, FHD+ (1080 x 2400px) resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 405 ppi
Camera: Primary: 64MP Quad-Bayer, f/1.8 aperture, 0.8µm pixel size, 1/1.72″ sensor size; Ultra-wide: 8MP, f/2.3 aperture, 1.12µm pixel size, 1/4″ sensor size; Macro: 2MP f/2.4, 1.75µm pixel size, 1/5″ sensor size; Depth sensor: 2MP mono camera
Front camera: 16MP f/2.0 aperture
Chipset: Mediatek Helio G95 (12nm): octa-core (2×2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55), Mali-G76 MC4 (900MHz) GPU
Memory: 6GB/64GB, 8GB/128GB, expandable via microSD card
OS: Android 10, Realme UI
Battery: 5,000 mAh, 30W Dart Charge
Connectivity: 4G LTE; Dual SIM; Dual-band Wi-Fi, Buetooth 5.1, GPS, USB Type-C 2.0
Misc:Side-mounted fingerprint reader
Hardware-wise, those are the only differences compared to the Realme 6. However, the young smartphone maker has a couple of new features in store for us as well. The camera comes with a Starry Mode and even though this hardly constitutes an upgrade, Realme insists that the shift from Samsung’s 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor to Sony’s IMX682 has allowed them to introduce an upgrade to the 64MP mode.

Moving deeper into the Realme 7, though, we didn’t have the device for too long, it already felt pretty familiar. It’s a refreshed Realme 6, after all.

How to preorder the PS5, when available again

The competition is mad crazy, but there’s a way to get it

Sony’s PlayStation 5 will be launching on November 12th in the US pricing from $399.99. That price will buy you the digital edition of the console which doesn’t have a Blu-ray disc drive. If you want a disc drive for playing disc-based PS5 games, 4K Blu-ray movies, and PS4 games that may end up being compatible, you’ll need to go for the higher version of the console that has sells for $499.

Preorders are now available, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be get one. The stock that was available at retailers like Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, Sam’s Club, and Walmart came and went incredibly fast. It’s been a whole fiasco. Some stores have preorders in stock down the line so you might want to check back from time to time to see if you have any luck.

To keep you posted on when it’s fully available, we’ll try to updated you with news of more stock coming to retailers — like how Walmart just added another batch of pre-orders at 6PM PT / 9PM ET.

PlayStation 5 (with disc drive): Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Target, Best Buy, B&H Photo, Sam’s Club
PlayStation 5 (with disc drive): Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Target, Best Buy, B&H Photo, Sam’s Club

PlayStation 5 (digital edition without disc drive): Buy on Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, Sam’s Club

Note that stock has been selling out very quickly, so on the off-chance you get a console in your cart, I highly recommend placing the order.
