Asuu commences Indefinite strike after warning

The Academic Staff Union of University (AsUU) launched an indefinite strike with effect from yesterday after its two week notice strike expired.

In a press conference in Abuja the President of the Union, Professor Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said that the Union has decided to engage in a complete and indefinite strike from Monday, the 23rd 2020.

The union refused the use of force to enroll its members on the Integrated Payroll and personnel (IPPIS) scheme.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had instructed universities all around the country to shut for one month from 23 March. However, ASUU began a warning strike on 9 March 2020 before the NUC directive.

ASUU begun the strike because Government refused to pay salaries to their staffs that declined to participate in the IPPIS payroll program as was required by all public workers.
